Queensland pool rules

Built to the standard

Queensland has strict pool safety laws, and a fence that looks fine can still fail. We build to these key requirements:

  • Height: at least 1200 mm from finished ground level at every point
  • Ground gap: no more than 100 mm under the fence
  • Gaps: no openings larger than 100 mm
  • Non-climbable zone: nothing that lets a child climb over
  • Gates: self-closing and self-latching from any open position

Pool fences must be inspected by a licensed pool safety inspector or building certifier. A pool safety certificate is needed when selling or leasing a property with a pool. We're happy to work alongside your inspector or certifier.

FAQ

Pool fencing questions

Glass or aluminium: which is better?

Glass gives an open, modern look and costs more. Aluminium is tough, affordable and low maintenance. Both can be fully compliant, and we'll quote either or both.

Do I need a pool safety certificate?

In Queensland, you need one when you sell or lease a property with a pool. The certificate is issued by a licensed pool safety inspector after they check the barrier.

Can you fix a fence that failed inspection?

Yes. Send us the inspector's report and we'll quote to fix the listed items, such as gates, latches, gaps, heights and climbable objects.

Can my boundary fence be part of the pool fence?

Often, yes, but it must meet the pool rules on the pool side. We'll check the height and climbing zones and quote any changes.
